Peppa Pig

A cake for Ellie who turned 2....
Sugar Paste Peppa Pig, Daisies and Presents....
On top of a maderia sponge with raspberry jam and vanilla buttercream.
It was lovely to see her smile and recognise 'Peppa' when she and her Mum came to collect it, although I did manage to knock poor Peppa's ears off when I put the lid on the cake box... lucky I took one last peek and noticed so I stuck them back on.

Royal Icing

Phew Roayl Icing is tricky.
I just finished a 2 day course in royal icing at Squires Kitchen in Farnham. I think I may need to practise a bit (christmas cake anyone?). This was the cake we made in the 2 days and due to the time constraints we could only do 1 coat of icing, it would be much smoother with 2... and it's decorated for someone's grandma.... 30 years ago. But still lots of techniques practised which was the aim of the day.

Shh She's Seeping

Cake 3: Shhhh She's Sleeping.

A Little yellow fairy asleep under a toadstool with lots of daisies about.
First time I've modelled a figure out of sugar paste, probably should have chosen something a bit easier first but I think she came out well.

Cake-a-saurus

Cake ONE: Cake-a-saurus, a big blue spotty dinosaur

(I'm sure it will be pointed out that dinosaurs are not blue and didn't have yellow spots, but I don't mind.... this is based on a dinosaur cake in a book by Debbie Brown.)

Next up a ladybug.

The Great Cake Adventure

Well

I've decided to have a bit of a practise so I've found some cute cakes I can make with a dome cake. The plan, make the cake, ice it, rip off the icing and start again, and again, and again.....
We'll just have to see how it goes.... watch this space.

Love Sarah

Stage ONE: the plain cake

Movember Cupcakes

I've a busy week coming up this week. We are doing another fundraising cupcake day at the pharmacy on Wenesday so 6 dozen cupcakes to make on Tuesday night... I might make 7 always run out by the end of the day. This time for Prostate Cancer.... so I guess some of them had better have moustaches for Movember.
Flavours decided so far:
Toffee apple with caramel icing
Pumpkin and chocolate wheat free with chocolate icing (saving one for Nicole)
Maple and Peacan becuse they were so delicious last time
Vanilla and Raspberry with Merangue buttercream icing
and one more to be decided later

Love Sarah

p.s Couldn't really have a post with
no cupcake picture... so this is
one of a vanilla and raspebrry
flower cupcake with a little
wee butterfly on top.

NICOLE

I really like making cakes for friends, then you get to see their reaction (as well as eat some). I have decided the middle mini sized cake is my favourite, the really small mini ones (about 8cm wide) are good for just one person, but this size which is about 15cm wide is big enough to share .... and maybe small enough to scoff the lot if you felt like it.

This cake is a wheat free cake that just happens to be dairy free and have vegtables in it so it's practically good for you. It was a Lemon Birthday Cake from a great cook book called 'Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache' by Harry Eastwood. The design is based on one I found on-line at Inspired by Michelle cake designs, which she had made for a friend called... Nicole.

I loved the colours and the great pink flower on top.

Happy Birthday Nicole

Iggle Piggle Number 2

Well my first shaped cake covered in sugar icing. This was a first birthday cake for Zachary. The remit was a baby blue number one with an iggle piggle on it.... I think it turned out quite well in the end, the stars and spots turned out to be a handy way to cover icing mishaps.... like for where I put my finger through it. The cake was a vanilla sponge cake with raspberry jam and vanilla icing in the middle. Yum.

Sunday 10 October 2010

Thought I should put some past cupcake endevours up too....
This was a trial lion and bear... they are vanilla cupcakes with chocolate icing and sugarpaste faces.

MEEEOW.

Saturday 9 October 2010

No cakes for a while, but I did get a lovely shiney red box to put all my cake things in so they are not all over the table, a good find thanks Alex.
but now I do have two new cakes to make... another Iggle Piggle cake this time for a first birthday and a belated mini birthday cake, I have just made all the decorations for them both... my iggle piggle looks a bit scary and I practised my modelling and made a meow.

Cheese Cake

Well not a cake made of cheese but cheese made of cake! This is a 70th Birthday cake for Alex's Uncle Gavin. A chocolate cake with raspberry filling and chocolate icing covered in fondant.... and yes all the cheeses are cake, covered in icing and the grapes are sugar paste and so is the gold bow and the mini bottles.

Laura's Flower Cake

This is a gorgeous wee mini sized cake for Laura for her birthday. The flowers are sugar paste and the cake is chocolate with a raspberry filling. I had lots of fun making all the different combinations of pink mini blossoms to match the big one.

Planes and Racing Cars

This is my favourite cake so far, better than Iggle Piggle. This is a birthday cake for Alex.... racing cars and aeroplanes. It was 2 different cakes a wheat free chocolate and pistacho on the bottom and a banana with caramel between the layers on the top. The aeroplane and racing cars were all made of modelling paste. The clouds are my favourite part and were an inspiration at 2am when they were made...

Iggle Piggle

This is my Iggle Piggle cake..... for Edward who turned 2. He recognised who it was sitting on his cake so in my books that makes it a success. First fondant covered cake, first fondant figure and first paid cake for a non-family member.

July Cupcakes

These are the first cupcakes I made for work. They were Raspberry Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream and Vanilla cupcakes with Raspberry Buttercream icing. With Fondant roses on top.

Tuesday 7 September 2010

Oh my goodness 2 proper cakes to make in the space of a few days ... one 70th birthday and one Iggle Piggle 2nd birthday.... quite different cakes I think. That means I have 2 to make for this Friday and 2 to make for next Friday in total. Staying calm and taking deep breaths.... Pictures to follow...

Sunday 5 September 2010

EEK new Blog all about me and making cakes! I thought it would be a good start and might inspire me to new cake making heights. Actually I prefer making small cakes and cupcakes and my favourite thing to decorate them with is flowers.... note the name petal cakes.
What started all this cake mayhem off.... I offered to decorate my brothers wedding cake in Jan so that gave me the perfect excuse to do lots of cake decoarting related courses and now it's all about perfecting my cake style and finding reasons to make lovely cakes.
That's all for now
