Teddy Bears

Teddy Bears

I was lucky enough to attend a class with the amazing Debbie Brown who taught us  how to make her gorgeous teddy bear cake. It was such a fun day and I was very impressed with the result. The body of the bears are all carved and shaped cakes with the centre of the heads being made from polystyrene balls, it would be possible to make these from rice bubble marshmellow krispees as well to make the whole thing edible. So much fun and so adorable, who could not love those faces!

Blossom Cake

A gorgeous creamy yellow cake covered in white blossoms with a hint of shimmer.
This was a wedding cake I had been seeing versions of all over the place and wanted to give it a go.
It turned out beautifully, what I like about this cake is the options it opens up. It would look lovely in a pale pink or sage green, the blossoms could be dripping down the sides of the top layer instead of covering it or you could add a third layer in. Beautiful cake!

Birthday Cat (it's a bit late)

A Very Special Cat Cake

My oldest little girl turned TWO last October and her request was a cat cake, when I asked her what colour cat she said 'orange'. I was struggling with a design as I didn't want to make a 3D cake but a trip to Rome with some girl friends provided the answer. We walked past a little shop with bags, books, hats, umbrellas, you name it they had it all with a stylised black cat on them. A few photos later, a bit of enlarging and tweaking and bingo I had my cake pattern.

I decided on a simple buttermilk cake with strawberry icing and then I made marshmallow fondant for the icing. Yes made from scratch, it was messy, very very messy but it did taste nicer than normal sugar paste. I then decorated the board with 2 of everything.

The icing was not as perfect as I would have liked but Eloise was thrilled, she is already planning this year's cake... pink princess cake please!
